WATER CONSERVATION AWARENESS

The Green Sanctuary Team and the Peace Team recently offered two films linking environmental justice and peace - "FLOW" (For Love Of Water) and "I Know I'm Not Alone." For more information about these films, here are links:

Fair Trade Products for Sale, an Eco-Justice Project

Every month on the first Sunday during the brunch on the patio a Green Sanctuary Team volunteer will be selling Fair Trade coffee, tea, and chocolate distributed by the UU Service Committee in conjunction with Equal Exchange. Our volunteer for this worthy project is Marianne Swift Gifford. Please call her at 941-1955 if you can help her.

Our Fellowship has an opportunity to put our values into action by helping small farmers in Latin America, Africa, and Asia through purchasing Fair Trade coffee, tea, chocolate, and other goodies from the UU Service Committee Coffee Project.

The UUSC Coffee Project partners UUSC with Equal Exchange, a worker-owned fair trade organization founded in 1986. Buying coffee, tea and cocoa directly from farmer cooperatives, Equal Exchange follows the standards and principles of fair trade on 100 percent of its products, ensuring that low-income farmers earn a fair price for their products. In 2001 alone, Equal Exchange paid farmers almost $1 million above what they would have earned under conventional trade practices. This allows farmers to better meet their families' basic needs, such as food, education, and health care.

Magazine Exchange, Another Way to Recycle!

Do you have a stack of recent magazines that you hate to throw away because they have some great articles? Bring them to PUUF on the second Sunday of each month for a magazine exchange on the patio. Hobbies, boats, cars, sports, food, travel, politics, news, etc., but please bring only magazines from the past 6 months. Any magazines remaining at the end of the second service will be recycled.
